How to Program a Chevy Key Fob

Each new Chevrolet vehicle comes with a handy and efficient Chevy Key fob, but it’s not uncommon for Henrico drivers to struggle with Chevy key fob programming, especially if you’re used to older vehicles and you just got a new Chevy Malibu key fob. Step-by-Step Chevy Key Fob Programming Guide

The Chevy key fob and the Chevy remote start key fob are incredibly useful pieces of car technology. To use them, make sure you’ve got the right Chevy key fob battery installed and follow these steps for your Chevy Malibu key fob or Chevy Silverado key fob:

  1. Unlock your car manually.
  2. Shut all car doors and put the key into the ignition without starting the car.
  3. Press and hold the unlock button on the driver’s side door while turning the key to the “ON” position. This should turn on the interior lights/sound system but not the engine.
  4. While still holding the unlock button, turn the key “on” and “off” in quick succession two times, then let go of the button.
  5. You should hear the door locks turn off and on, meaning you’re ready to start Chevy key fob programming.
  6. Now get out your Chevy fob. Press and hold the “unlock” and “lock” buttons simultaneously. You should hear the door locks engage then disengage, meaning that it worked!
  7. Finish the Chevy key fob programming sequence by putting the key back into the ignition and then turning it to the “on” position.
